Is the Verity mod safe? — FAQ, safety, and download guide
Short answer: Yes, the Verity mod for Minecraft is safe to install — when downloaded from the official sources. The Lunar Client modpack version of the Verity mod is signed by the Lunar Client team and verified. The 1.21.1 community fork (Verity-CE) is open-source on GitHub and has been audited by the community. The Verity mod does not modify base game files, does not inject code into other processes, and does not transmit your account credentials anywhere. Always download from lunarclient.com or the official Esylmu/Verity-CE GitHub repo. Any "Verity mod" downloaded from a third-party site is unsafe.
Is the Verity mod safe to install?
The Verity mod is safe if you install it from the right source. The two safe sources are:
- Lunar Client modpack store — for 1.20.1, 1.20.4, and 1.21. The mod is downloaded by Lunar Client, signed by the Lunar Client team, and verified on every launch. The installer has a SHA-256 hash that Lunar Client checks before loading. If the hash does not match, the mod is rejected and Lunar Client shows a clear error.
- Esylmu/Verity-CE on GitHub — for the 1.21.1 community fork. The JAR is open-source (you can read the full source on GitHub) and has been audited by dozens of community contributors. The release JARs are signed with Esylmu's GPG key.
The Verity mod is NOT safe when downloaded from any other source. Common unsafe sources include:
- Third-party download sites that bundle "Verity mod + free Lunar Client" installers — these are trojans that install a coin miner alongside the actual Lunar Client
- Bedrock mod sites that host a "Verity mod" JAR for Bedrock Edition — the Bedrock mod is a different project, and Bedrock-hosting sites are frequent malware vectors
- Forums and Discord DMs with "Verity mod v2.1.0 leak / crack / free download" links — these are always malware
- Direct download from a search result that says "Verity mod CurseForge download" — the original CurseForge listing was removed in 2026; any current CurseForge mirror is unsafe
If you have already installed the Verity mod from an unofficial source, uninstall it, run a malware scan, and reinstall from lunarclient.com.
What the Verity mod does and does not do (safety audit)
The Verity mod is a behavior mod, not a gameplay or system mod. The mod's source code (visible on the Esylmu GitHub repo for the community fork, and partially reverse-engineerable from the Lunar Client build) does the following:
- Reads game state — the mod observes player position, time of day, biome, nearby entities, building progress, and inventory. This is normal Minecraft mod behavior.
- Renders an in-world entity — the yellow ball (Verity) is rendered using the same Minecraft rendering pipeline as any other entity (a mob, a projectile, etc.). No custom GL calls.
- Streams AI dialogue — when Verity speaks, the mod sends a request to ThatMobb's backend at
api.verity-mod.com(or to a custom endpoint on the 1.21.1 community fork). The request includes only the in-game context (what the player was just doing), not personal data. - Plays audio — voice synthesis and ambient horror sounds are played through the standard Minecraft audio system. The mod does not record from your microphone or capture system audio.
The Verity mod does not:
- Modify your
mods, config, orversionsfolders (except the single file it installs itself) - Inject code into other processes
- Read or transmit your Minecraft account credentials, your Microsoft account, your email, or any system-level credentials
- Connect to a server other than
api.verity-mod.com(or your custom-configured endpoint on the community fork) - Mine cryptocurrency
- Install browser extensions or system-level software
- Open ports or accept incoming connections
This safety profile is identical to most well-known Minecraft mods (OptiFine, Sodium, Iris, etc.) — the mod is self-contained, open or auditable, and has a clear trust path through Lunar Client or GitHub.
How to verify your Verity mod install is legitimate
If you are not 100% sure your Verity mod install is the real one, do these three checks:
- Check the install path. The Verity mod JAR should be in
~/.lunarclient/settings/game/versions/<version>/verity-x.x.x.jar(Lunar Client) or~/.minecraft/mods/verity-ce-1.21.1.jar(community fork). If the JAR is anywhere else, it is not the official build. - Check the file size. The official Verity mod JAR is 28-32 MB. The community fork is 22-26 MB. A "Verity mod" under 5 MB is not the real mod — it is a stub or a malware dropper.
- Check the SHA hash. The official Lunar Client build has a known SHA-256 hash that Lunar Client validates. Run
shasum -a 256 <path-to-verity-jar>(macOS / Linux) orGet-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 <path>(Windows) and compare to Lunar Client's published hash. If it does not match, the mod is tampered.
If all three checks pass, the Verity mod is safe. If any check fails, uninstall and reinstall from lunarclient.com.
Is the Verity mod on CurseForge? (No — safety note)
The Verity mod is not on CurseForge, Modrinth, or any other third-party launcher. Any "Verity mod CurseForge download" you find is either:
- A removed / dead listing (the original CurseForge page was taken down in 2026 when the mod moved to Lunar Client)
- An outdated build from before the move (often labeled 1.16 / 1.18 / 1.19 — these will not load on current Minecraft versions)
- Malware (anything that asks for system admin permissions, or downloads a "free Lunar Client" alongside the mod, is a trojan)
For the full breakdown of how to identify a fake Verity mod CurseForge download, see the compatibility wiki page.
Does the Verity mod work on Bedrock Edition? (No — safety note)
The "Verity mod" on Bedrock Edition (Pocket Edition, Windows 10 / 11 Bedrock, console editions) is a completely different mod by different authors. It is unrelated to ThatMobb's Java Verity mod. They share a name only. To get the Java Verity mod, install Lunar Client on a PC. The Bedrock "Verity" mod is safe in the sense that it is not malware, but it is not the Verity mod the user is searching for.
How do I install the Verity mod on Lunar Client?
Five steps, about three minutes:
- Download Lunar Client from lunarclient.com
- Launch Lunar Client and sign in with your Microsoft / Mojang account
- Click the Mods tab in the left sidebar
- Search Verity in the modpack store
- Click Install, then launch the game
For the 1.21.1 community fork, install NeoForge 1.21.1 and drop the Verity-CE JAR from github.com/Esylmu/Verity-CE/releases into your mods folder.
Which Minecraft versions does the Verity mod support?
Official: 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.21 (via Lunar Client modpack). Community: 1.21.1 (via the Esylmu fork on NeoForge). The mod does not support 1.21.2, 1.21.3, 1.22, snapshots, or any Bedrock / Pocket Edition version.
Verity mod not working — how do I fix it?
See the full troubleshooting wiki page. The top five causes in order: wrong launcher, mod version vs Minecraft version mismatch, Lunar Client not updated, outdated GeckoLib (1.21.1 only), or simply not having spawned into a survival world yet.
How big is the Verity mod Discord?
The official community Discord has over 62,000 members. Daily theories, bug reports, the lore channel, and a strict no-spoilers policy for new players. The Discord is a safe place to ask questions and verify the Verity mod is legitimate — if anyone in #support DMs you with a "Verity mod download link," report them. The mod team never DMs first.
Who made the Verity mod?
Verity was created by ThatMobb. The 1.21.1 community fork is maintained by Esylmu on GitHub. The official distribution partner is Lunar Client. The mod is not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft.
Will the Verity mod slow down my game?
Lunar Client already has a performance layer (Sodium, Iris, Lithium) that other launchers do not. The Verity mod is one of the lighter mods in the modpack — about 30 MB RAM, under 5% CPU during normal play. The only frame-spike trigger is when Verity speaks (voice synthesis), and that lasts under 200ms. On Lunar Client's recommended hardware (4GB+ RAM, any GPU from 2012 onwards), the overhead is unnoticeable.
Can I record or stream the Verity mod?
Yes. The Verity mod does not modify base game files, so OBS, Medal, and other recorders work without configuration. Streaming is the recommended way to experience the Verity mod for the first time — the audio cues land better in headphones. The mod does not include any anti-stream DRM.
Is the Verity mod multiplayer-safe?
The Verity mod is multiplayer-aware but the official builds have multiplayer disabled by default. The 1.21.1 community fork has a config flag to enable per-player progression. The canonical recommendation is to play the Verity mod in singleplayer first; multiplayer servers that opt-in to the community fork's multiplayer flag require all players to run the same mod version.
